Crumbed Mushrooms

What Are Mushrooms?

Often mistaken for a vegetable, mushrooms are a type of fungus that releases spores instead of seeds. They grow above ground or on organic materials and are native to North America and Europe. Known for their delicate flavour and meaty texture, mushrooms are also packed with essential vitamins and minerals, making them a nutritious and flavourful addition to many dishes.

I’ve created a delicious crumbed mushroom recipe that can be enjoyed as either a main dish or a flavorful side to complement any meal. It’s crispy, tasty, and packed with goodness!

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 tablespoon dried parsley
  • 2 egg whites

Method:

  1. In a bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and dried parsley.
  2. In a separate bowl, lightly whisk the egg whites until slightly frothy.
  3. Dip each mushroom into the egg whites, ensuring it’s fully coated, then roll it in the breadcrumb mixture until evenly covered.
  4. For deep frying: Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pan and fry the mushrooms until golden brown.
  5.  For baking: Place the coated mushrooms on a baking sheet and bake at 180°C for 10-15 minutes until browned.

Serve with a chilli mayo sauce for a delicious kick!
