
Button mushroom burger
Mushrooms are packed with nutritional value. They are low in calories and are a great source of fibre and protein. They are exceptionally good for individuals who are on a plant based diet. They provide important nutrients, including B Vitamins, Selenium, Potassium, Copper, and Vitamin D.
An awesome alternative to meat is the following burger.
Ingredients:
- lettuce;
- sliced tomato;
- large black button mushrooms;
- sliced red onion;
- 1 egg;
- bread crumbs;
- oil for frying
- mayonnaise; and
- sriracha sauce (or any other choice of sauce).
Seasoning Crumbs:
- add crumbs to a bowl;
- add pepper;
- add a pinch of turmeric;
- dry herbs of choice; and
- chilli powder (optional).
Method:
- Cut stems off the mushrooms;
- Wash and dry large button; and let dry;
- Cut mozzarella cheese into thin slices, and place in the centre of the mushroom;
- Sandwich two mushroom together and secure it with a large toothpick
- Beat 1 egg till light and fluffy, dip mushrooms into the egg, then into crumbs, coat the mushrooms well;
- Heat pan to medium heat and fry until golden brown, make sure the cheese does not ooze out;
- Place mushrooms on paper towel to absorb the oil;
- Cut bun and place lettuce leaves, crumbed burger & sauces; and
- Place on a bun and add your toppings of choice.
